17-22 February 2025
Iași, Romania

No experience was needed to take part in this highly practical and interactive 4 day introduction to MoJo (Mobile Journalism). The aim of the week was to provide a safe space in which to try new things and develop practical experience as a MoJo storyteller.

There were 15 people from 11 different countries learning through supported practical challenges. Some had experience as VJs, others had never shot or edited anything before – and had never filmed or edited on their phone for broadcast.

Delegates took on challenges, tailored to their level of experience.

The learning process continued across the task of producing a complete film from start to finish. It was ok not to be perfect, so long as delegates learnt how to do thing differently next time.

Delegates learnt to gather material & create a basic edit working alone, understanding the principles of filming & editing for TV and how self-shooting and MoJo differ from traditional processes.
Delegates gained hands on experience in:
- Working with MoJo kit, camera apps & mobile editing software.
- Shot composition & sound recording in real world situations.
- Gathering shots & editing with them on the phone.
- Shooting interviews, sequences & moving shots.
- Creating a self-shot story from start to finish.

Jules Hyam, a highly experienced journalist and media trainer with over 25 years’ experience at the BBC and as an independent film maker.
