3rd April 2014, Dundalk, Ireland
RTÉ Ireland, in association with their education partner the Dundalk Institute of Technology (DKIT), hosts a one-day workshop on live broadcasting over 3G/4G networks, KA band and WiFi.
Many member stations are working independently of each other in this area.
26 delegates from 13 European broadcasters are taking part in the workshop. The purpose is to share the different experiences with the new technologies, to explore the potential, indentify the problems and propose possible solutions!
Some of the areas for discussion include:
- Network reliability
- Strengths and weaknesses of the different networks: 3G/4G/WiFi/KA Band etc.
- Hardware supplied by small bespoke companies as well as the major players in the broadcast sector
- Cost advantages
- Opportunities for regional broadcasters and regional programming
- New skills required of operators and journalists
The workshop takes place in Dundalk Institute of Technology (DKIT), a city north of Dublin and close to the border with Northern Ireland.
A report with conclusions from the workshop will be made available to all members.
