SUBJECT: Public Service Media in Romania

Dear Prime Minister,
Dear Mr. Cioloş,

It's with great concern that CIRCOM Regional, the association of regional public service media in Europe, is following the current situation in Televiziunea Romana (TVR) and ask for your urgent intervention to assure that this important democratic institution will be saved.

TVR seems to be near a complete financial collapse caused by their extremely high level of debts. This will have enormous consequences for the production and broadcasting of both national and regional programmes. The importance of Regional Public Service Media is indisputable in a democracy, and TVR's regional programmes are the closest to the viewers and the citizens in Romania. The regional presence is crucial for any public service broadcaster, and TVR's regional programmes have kept a high quality and standards and won international awards like the Prix CIRCOM.

As the future of TVR is at stake now, we urge and trust that your government will take steps to secure that TVR will remain as a public service broadcaster and can go on serving the Romanian audience both nationwide and in the regions.
