Ermelo, The Netherlands, 26th March 2015
CIRCOM is delighted to announce a new workshop hosted by our member from the Netherlands ROOS Dagen. It will be part of their annual conference for Dutch regional broadcasters. The topic will be how Social Media, apps for mobile devices and other tools for regional (investigative) journalism can be used to generate content and stories.
The workshop will take place on Thursday 26th March and will be very hands on. The participants will learn how to use new apps for mobile devices, sensors, maps and other tools to do research and give numerous new possibilities for regional journalist to do research and make new stories. You as a journalist (or even your audience) can now measure air or noise pollution, earthquakes and other things that can affect our daily lives. And these apps are not expensive; you can learn how to use them in one day.
So please bring your laptop and mobile phone to get you started right away.
Facebook and other social media offer new ways to find the right people to interview. Facebook Graph Search is one of their newest tools. The workshop will offer you the opportunity on how to use Facebook Graph Search.
Hille van der Kaa is a trainer and researcher at the School of Journalism and the University of Tilburg. She invents new tools for (regional) journalists with her students. Henk van Ess does amazing research on social media. He can show participants how to find people to interview in companies or other places you hardly have access to.
The workshop is organized during ROOS Dagen, the annual conference for Dutch programme-makers from regional stations. CIRCOM participants are welcome to join us at the conference dinner on Wednesday the 25th March and meet our Dutch colleagues.
On the morning of 26th March, delegates will be able to attend the ROOS Dagen conference plenary opening session on Constructive Journalism with keynote speaker Cathrine Gyldensted, a Danish investigative journalist and teacher. Her session will discuss news that is relevant to society, and not unnecessarily negative, focusing on reporting news in a more engaging, constructive way.
After this exciting ROOS Dagen plenary session, the CIRCOM delegates will continue with their own workshop that is aimed at social media specialists, social media editors, online editors and editors in chief. We have places for 15 delegates only and we’ll try to involve regional broadcasters from as many different countries as possible.
The event will be held at the Hotel de Heerlickheijd, Ermelo, the Netherlands. Delegates would need to arrive on the evening of the 25th March when you are invited to dinner (starting around 7.30) by our hosts ROOS. Ermelo is easily reached by train from Amsterdam, Schiphol airport.
The workshop on Thursday 26th March is free of charge. Accommodation will be reserved by ROOS, at the Hotel de Heerlickheijd, or at a hotel nearby, at a special rate of €99 per person per night, and, along with travel, this will be the responsibility of the delegates or stations. Please advise if you wish to stay one or two nights at the hotel. We recommend you to bring a laptop and a mobile phone for the workshop.
