Vila Nova da Gaia, near Porto, will be the venue of the judging next year of the Prix CIRCOM, the awards for the best programmes, news reports and professional skills in Europe’s regional public service broadcasters and media providers. The judging will be hosted by the Portuguese broadcaster and media operator RTP.
Portugal and RTP have hosted the CIRCOM conference three times – Ofir (1989), Porto (2001) and Ponta Delgada (2017) – but this is the first time they host the 14 international judges who will probably need to view 200 entries across 11 genre categories during a week in April 2021.
Isabel Correia, Senior Manager of North Production Centre and host broadcaster RTP, said: “It is an honour and is with great expectation that we are going to welcome the members of JURY PRIX CIRCOM in Porto 2021.”
David Lowen, President Prix CIRCOM, said: “This is the foremost European competition for public media providers. It is a great honour for those who win and CIRCOM is delighted that the selection process will be in Portugal for the first time.”
Fernando Ojea, Secretary General of CIRCOM, said: "The Prix CIRCOM judging is a unique event because 14 experts from across Europe get together to assess hundreds of productions and write a report for every entry. I personally know how inspiring Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia can be for them."
The contest for 2021 will be launched later this year.
Entries for the 2020 competition can be accepted by the deadline on Monday 16th March.
Sponsors of the Prix CIRCOM are: TVP (Poland), France Télévisions, BBC (UK), SVT (Sweden), RTÉ (Ireland), TG4 (Ireland), NRK (Norway), TVR (Romania), BNT (Bulgaria), RPO (The Netherlands), TPA/TVG (Spain) and the Council of Europe.
